“Our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions.” ---Edward R. Murrow

Edward R. Murrow, an American broadcast journalist in the early 20th century, states that "our major obligation is not to mistake slogans for solutions." The reason as to why I agree to what he states is to inform the great people in society to not go along with what an advertisement or piece of propaganda says. What is written on such platforms may introduce certain ideals which can later instill a bias or fixed agenda about a products or motto. As a whole, we must not let such messages being displayed order us around or dictate our thinking. By not allowing such mottos and messages to take position of rules we must follow, we let ourselves think for ourselves and don't follow the movement in which everyone will move.
Many can see how different mediums carry such advertisements that hold ideals to them. These advertisement ideals can be spread out with slogans that get people to jump on board with the idea. If many were to follow along with a said principle an advertisement demonstrates and states, one may feel some pressure to follow along as well. With this being done, many different beautiful perspectives hide in the shadows as an idea becomes the main or even the only ideal that seems right or okay to a whole. The slogans in advertisements shall not be used as solutions and ways to deal with situations because then it would lead to over generalization as well as a broad solution that can be very wrong to many others.
