I would have to agree with Margaret Mead's argument that deals with us praising the ones above but envying similar to us. I believe this to be true since when people are more successful, we give them praise and tend to recognize them for their effort. As opposed to the ones similar to us, when given such reward we view them as a threat since were jealous. This thinking most likely comes from the notion that if they achieved so and we are the same level 'why wasn't that me instead'.
